Climate-controlled storage that's actually climate-controlled.

We read every facility's own website and only list the ones that say they offer climate-controlled units. Each listing quotes the line we found.

The process

How a facility gets on this site

Read the full method
  1. 1

    We start with Google Maps

We pull self storage listings from Google Maps, including the facility's website, address, hours and rating.

  2. 2

    We read the facility's website

A script visits each site, skips menus and boilerplate, and looks for wording about climate-controlled or temperature-controlled units. Lines that say "non-climate" don't count.

  3. 3

    We show the proof

If the site says it, the facility is listed with the exact line we found and the month we checked. If it doesn't, the facility is left off.

Before you pay more

Do you actually need climate control?

You need it if you are storing things that heat, cold or humidity can damage, or if you are storing for more than a few months in a hot or humid area. Clothes in plastic bins and garden tools usually don't need it.

  • Wood furniture

Wood swells in humid air and shrinks in dry air. Repeated swings can warp drawers, loosen joints and crack veneer.

  • Electronics

Heat shortens battery life, and condensation from a cold-to-warm swing can corrode circuit boards.

  • Photos and documents

Humidity makes photos stick together and lets mold grow on paper. Heat speeds up fading.

  • Instruments

Guitars, violins and pianos are wood under tension. Humidity and temperature swings crack tops and throw off tuning.

  • Art

Canvas tightens and loosens with humidity, and paint can crack or flake. Framed works can grow mold behind the glass.

  • Clothing and mattresses

Fabric and foam hold moisture. In a damp unit they can pick up mildew and a smell that is hard to remove.

Run a facility we missed?
